Pauline's 30 years of service at MDS Global
Pauline has worked for MDS Global for 30 years, since the business first began. At the end of 1987, Pauline started out on a temporary agency placement at Martin Dawes Telecoms, as the company was then known, answering phones and talking about mobile phone and fax rentals – an industry that she saw boom within a short space of time.
As part of a small team, Pauline got involved with everything, from new business and customer enquiries, through to chasing up end-user invoices and debt, giving her a thorough understanding of the business.
During her 30 years at MDS Global, Pauline has seen the company grow to become the truly global business that it is today. Pauline has worked in many different areas of the business, from writing software manuals and testing major releases, to supporting sales bids and onsite implementations. Pauline developed our Managed Service operation, as well as the functions within it, and all whilst bringing up her children, Katy and Charlie. Long hours and lengthy overseas trips meant time away from her children, which was hard, but Pauline was hooked on understanding software and technology, so she used her exceptional organisational skills to fit her career around being a mum.
Pauline says, “I get a buzz from the challenge of stepping out of my comfort zone, and I love working collaboratively. When you work together to deliver that end result – that sense of achievement is what I enjoy most about working here”.
Pauline is passionate about encouraging women to consider a career in technology. Growing up, she hadn’t been aware of careers in IT and had aspired to work in HR or training, but she is glad she has spent her life in IT. She says, “I would love to see more women choose a career in technology. When I first started, IT was dominated by men, but this starting to change. If you are passionate and have the right attitude, you will make it work”.
